I have been told my last name (McCartney) is of Irish and Scottish origin. Any thoughts?

I would be thinking more Scottish. Being an Irish (Gaelic) speaker I can't think of a similar non Anglicised version, therefore my reason for thinking it's Scottish. On the other hand a lot of Scots Gaelic originated in Ireland a long long time ago, though it has evolved a lot over the years.
